Optident Dental Clinic Fees Guide
NHS CHARGES
With effect from 1st April 2006, the Government changed the way NHS dentistry in England and Wales is provided. It has also introduced new changes that NHS patients have to pay for their treatment.
At this practice, you dentists have decided to continue to provide NHS care under the new terms, but there will be some changes to the way we work. We always aim to provide a high standard of care and service for our patients.
Making NHS Appointments
The Government’s changes mean that patients will no longer be registered with a particular dentist but this does not mean that you cannot continue to see your usual dentist. If you ask us for an appointment, we will try to offer you one as soon as possible at a convenient time within the hours we have set aside for NHS patients. The NHS now asks us to provide a fixed, limited amount of NHS care each year and so we have to allocate our time and our NHS budget accordingly. You can ask to see a particular dentist but it may not always be possible to arrange this because that dentist may not have any NHS time available.
Please note that only treatment that is required to secure your oral health can be carried out on the NHS and we have a certain restricted range of NHS Materials that we can use. If you wish to have private white fillings or cosmetic crowns or veneers, then these are only available on a private basis.
Cosmetic treatment is only available privately and your dentist will inform you if your treatment is not available on the NHS.
Urgent treatment is available on the NHS but Urgent normally means treatment that the dentist considers necessary to relieve severe pain or prevent your oral condition from deteriorating before you can make a normal appointment. In this situation, the dentist will carry out the urgent treatment to relieve the pain and then may book you another appointment for a full check-up to assess the rest of your teeth.
If you need dental advice or care when the practice is closed please telephone 111.
NHS Patient Charges
With effect from 1st April 2015, if you pay NHS charges, instead of paying a proportion of the cost of your treatment, you will pay one of four fixed charges relating to the type of care and treatment you have had. The charge bands are given below.
NHS dental care is still free for children under 18 years (or under 19 in full-time education) as well as for pregnant women, new mothers, and people on certain state benefits.
NHS Charges
Band 1 – £ 26.80 This covers an examination, diagnosis (e.g. X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish if needed, and the application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant.
Band 2 – £ 73.50 This covers everything listed in Band 1, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work, or if your dentist needs to remove one or more of your teeth.
Band 3 – £ 319.10 This covers everything listed in Band 1 and Band 2 above, plus crowns, dentures, and bridges
Urgent Treatment If you require urgent treatment care, £26.80 even if your urgent treatment needs more than one appointment to complete you will only need to pay one Band 1 charge.
NHS Opening Times
Our contracted hours for NHS patients are from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Outside of these hours, all patients are treated on a private basis only.
Reminders and Recalls
At the end of your course of treatment, your dentist will discuss with you when you will need to see a dentist again. NHS dentists will now follow guidelines issued by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) on how often patients need to see their dentist, according to their oral health needs. So, it is no longer the norm for NHS patients to have two NHS check-ups each year if they do not need them. The Department of Health wants NHS resources to be allocated to those who need it most. You can, of course, visit your dentist more often privately if you want to talk to your dentist more regularly about your oral health needs, or have a regular visit to the hygienist, and be reassured that all is well.
After we have finished your course in NHS or Private treatment, we will book your next check-up appointment. Please note that if you do not attend regularly for your recommended check-up intervals, your NHS slot may be taken by another patient (due to the limited funding available) and you may not be able to have further NHS treatment when you eventually return to the practice.
We recommend therefore that all patients regularly attend for their recommended check-ups.
Private Care
NHS patients can opt to have part of their treatment privately. Private treatment gives you more time with your dentist as well as personal service, greater choice of materials, and higher quality laboratory work for a better aesthetic result. There is also a greater range of treatment options available as cosmetic treatment is excluded from the NHS.
Sometimes private treatment may even be cheaper
Cancellations
If you cannot keep your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can use the appointment for another patient on our waiting list. If you miss more than 3 appointments and give less than 48 hours’ notice, we may not be able to complete your treatment or offer you NHS care in the future.
Should you have any comments or concerns, please talk to our friendly reception team.
Payment Policy
You will be given a written treatment plan after a full check-up which details all of your treatment for each course of treatment. This written plan will also detail the fees you need to pay both privately or NHS. Please note that due to the unpredictable nature of some treatments, it is not always possible to give an accurate quote and an estimate may be given. However, if the treatment does change THEN YOUR DENTIST WILL DISCUSS IT WITH YOU AND TELL YOU OF ALL THE COSTS BEFORE PROCEEDING.
PAYMENT WILL BE REQUESTED IN FULL BEFORE THE COMPLETION OF TREATMENT OR BEFORE YOUR LAST APPOINTMENT AND PAYMENT CAN BE MADE BY CASH, DEBIT, OR CREDIT CARD.
Refunds
If you change your mind and need a refund for any treatment that has not been carried out, then this will be refunded to you by means of original payment.
FINANCE & ELIgibility
Our fee guide provides clear, upfront pricing for all treatments, with no hidden costs. Private care can be made more affordable with interest-free finance on treatments over £250 (subject to status), helping you plan dental care that suits your needs and budget.
Interest-Free Finance (0% APR)
We offer 0% interest finance over 12 months for private treatment plans over £250.
Spread the cost over a longer term
For higher-value treatments you can also spread the cost over a longer period with affordable monthly instalments through Tabeo — giving you greater flexibility.
Low interest payment plans
Our low-interest payment plans allow you to break down the cost of cosmetic or restorative treatments into smaller monthly payments that suit your budget. Credit is subject to status and is available to UK residents
aged 18 and over.
