How Optident supports anxious dental patients: Gentle, stress-free care you can Trust

Everybody has something that makes them freeze up in fear, whether that be spiders or spoons (yes, we’ve heard it all!). One thing we encounter a lot is the dentist, and we completely understand.

We also know that it’s not as simple as us just telling you that everything is going to be okay and that you have nothing to worry about – if only it were that easy. Just like anything, we have to feel safe, secure, and relaxed to truly tackle our fears, which is why these are three of our main priorities for you as our patient here at Optident Colchester.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know before your appointment if you’re feeling nervous – here at Optident, we strive to create a warm, friendly, and judgement-free environment for each and every one of our patients, in complete confidentiality.

When you come to visit us at Optident, you will be welcomed by our empathetic receptionist team who will be more than happy to chat with you in as much detail (or as little if that’s what you prefer!) about what procedure you are going to have with us on that day. There are no silly questions here – our main objective is making sure you are as relaxed as possible.

It’s completely normal to feel anxious, especially if it’s been a while since your last visit. No matter how long it’s been, we’ll welcome you with compassion, not judgment.

When you come to see us, there are many things we can do to make your visit as stress-free as possible.

We can:

  • Give you a “stop” signal (like raising a hand) if you need a break.
  • Let you choose music or headphones during treatment.
  • Use numbing gels if appropriate, and explain these options clearly to you.
  • Allow you to watch Netflix or listen to podcasts.
  • We have stress balls that patients are welcome to use, and aromatherapy options that can help calm nerves.
  • If you are a repeat patient of ours, we will offer you the same clinician or therapist that you are used to, to ensure there are no unnecessary changes.
  • We are happy to give you a pre-visit phone call to talk through any concerns you may have.
